Where DIY goes wrong: the tandem roller on a PGT slider is under spring tension and sits in a pocket that requires tilting the sash out of the frame. A 90-pound vinyl panel or 140-pound aluminum panel is awkward and unforgiving; we have replaced doors where the owner cracked the glass or bent the frame rail attempting this. The mortise lock interfaces with the keeper and the shoot bolts simultaneously; misalignment here means the door appears to lock but does not.
